Kristen C. Bailey - Sweet & Meats BBQ

Cincinnati, Ohio – 

             Kristen C. Bailey, owner of Sweet & Meats BBQ was named 2018 Client of the Year by the SCORE’s Greater Cincinnati Chapter. Kristen is the first recipient to take home a $3,000 prize, provided by Kemba Credit Union. Mona Morrow, WCPO Director of Community Relations was the emcee at a luncheon supported by the Gladys Knox Foundation, where the winner of SCORE Client of Year was announced. 

Kemba Credit Union, one of Cincinnati’s leading financial institutions is honored to present this year’s award to Kristen C. Bailey and to recognize all the nominees.  “Hearing the different stories and all the hard work these clients have put into growing their business and engaging in our communities is exciting. We have been privileged to work with SCORE to assist these business owners in making a brighter future for Cincinnati,” said Dan Sutton, President/CEO of Kemba.  

            Sweets & Meats BBQspecializes in smoked meats, homemade sides, and desserts. They are a scratch-made kitchen with everything prepared from family recipes passed down over three generations. From a roadside stand in 2014, to catering, to a food truck, and now in their first carry-out store location, Sweet & Meats BBQ has almost doubled their business every year since inception.        

            "I'm very proud of the progress made by Kristen Bailey and Sweets & Meats BBQ," said mentor Mike Mulligan. “She has tirelessly grown her sales, serving 37,000 customers and employing 11 people in just four years of operation. She possesses an incredible drive and business moxie and a passion for her business that is outstanding. She has overcome a myriad of obstacles to growing her business but still takes time to give back to the Community by helping other small business owners especially MORTAR students.”

Kristen shared about her SCORE mentor, Mike Mulligan: "Mike has provided assistance every step of the way and has proven to be an excellent resource when business advice is needed or any time we had challenges gaining access to capital." Mike helped Kristen develop a business plan, follow regulations for hiring staff, helped Sweet & Meats BBQ become a regular vendor at local events, and helped with securing financing for their different business ventures.

SCORE Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana Chapter is a nonprofit organization with more than 100 experienced volunteers who offer free mentoring in all aspects of business development and operations.  The chapter offers low-cost educational seminars and maintains an extensive library of business briefs and online webinars.  SCORE is the oldest and largest free business mentoring organization in the US with over 10,000 volunteers nationwide who are motivated to give back to their local communities through their support of small business.
