How SCORE Helped:

Serial Entrepreneur Lives out American Dream, Gives Back to Hispanic Community

Gina Pinto Williams of Hyde Park came to America to achieve her dream of owning her own business. She has indeed accomplished that—fourfold. Williams, a Peru native and owner of four Liberty Tax Service Center franchises, has added a check cashing service and residential and hotel cleaning service since the fall of 2010. Williams, the fourth of seven children, has lived in the U.S. since 1999. She came to SCORE in 2010, seeking advice on starting the check cashing service and GSG Cleaning Services, a business she was starting with her two sisters, Siyelly Pinto and Gaby Pinto.

Williams’ husband, Michael, a P&G alumnus, has been working with Gina in the tax business since 2007, and together they have grown it to include Liberty franchises in Norwood, Price Hill, Eastgate and Fairfield. Michael Williams is also regional franchise manager for Liberty Tax and recruits and trains new franchise operators in the greater Cincinnati region. “Gina is a self-starter who only sees obstacles as opportunities,” said Dennis Murphy of Montgomery, her main SCORE counselor. “She listens and takes advice and has always completed her assignments on time. She is an extremely talented, well organized, hardworking individual.” The Williams’s businesses focus not only on serving individual and business clients, they also serve the Hispanic community.

In 2012, Williams received the National Hispanic Business of the Year Award from the League of United Latin American Citizens in Cincinnati for outstanding service to the Hispanic community. She was honored for creating a multilingual and multicultural tax office in Cincinnati and for providing free monthly educational workshops to both documented and undocumented Hispanics on how to meet their financial and fiscal responsibilities to the government. Since the tax season is fairly short and Williams wanted to keep her good multilingual staff members busy year round, this year she added payroll and bookkeeping services at Liberty for their small business tax clients. The office provides bookkeeping, payroll, quarterly reports, sales tax and tax and business advice. So far, 20 small businesses have become clients . 3 “I believe that education provides options and options provide empowerment,” said Williams.

“SCORE has helped me identify problems and research competition in the industry. Dennis and my team mentors have been very helpful by giving me homework and guidance. I feel very privileged that I found SCORE.” All of the Williams’ businesses have proven to be successful. Their Norwood Liberty Tax office has ranked as one of Liberty Tax Top 10 franchises since its second year and this year was ranked sixth of 4,500 Liberty Tax franchises nationwide. The Williams have won the franchise Top Gun Award every year since their start with Liberty Tax in 2007.

Williams’ companies employ 150 employees during tax season and about 30 employees year round. GSG Cleaning Services employs about 65 fulltime employees. The couple’s main Liberty Tax Service Center is located at 4627 Montgomery Road in Norwood. For more information, contact her at (513) 924-1040 or go to www.libertytax.com.
