Cynthia F. Reaves, Esq. is the Founder and Managing Member of Reaves Law Firm, PLLC, where she focuses on small and emerging business start ups, nonprofit law and contract law. She works with small businesses in getting established and navigating the early years of formation. As a contract lawyer she works with entertainment contracts, lease agreements, employment contracts and business buy-sell agreements, among other contracts. ? Prior to establishing Reaves Law Firm, Ms. Reaves was a partner with the Michigan law firm of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, LLP where she specialized in tax-exempt organization law, managed care and insurance law and corporate transactional law. Prior to joining Honigman, Ms. Reaves was a partner with the New York law firm of Epstein Becker Green, P.C., where she was the Administrative Partner and Chairman of the Exempt Organization practice group in the Washington, D.C. office of the firm. She has been invited to the White House for every administration since President Ronald Reagan and has provided policy advice to President Barack Obama and President Bill Clinton. She served as communications director and legal counsel to former President Jimmy Carter in his work for Habitat for Humanity. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and she is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. ? Ms. Reaves was also formerly a national manager with Deloitte Services, LLP, the internal services arm of Deloitte Touche a global financial services firm. In that capacity, she oversaw the strategic development, on a global level for over 1800 administrative support personnel. ? Ms. Reaves has authored or co-authored five books and legal treatises and hundreds of articles on a variety of topics. She was a guest writer for the book “Dear Sisters, Dear Daughters” which invited national law figures to share their experiences on the practice of law by women. Her recent book, Seasons of Sisterhood – Meditations Inspired by the Wit and Wisdom of the Women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was published in 2014 and was considered for a 2014 NAACP Image Award for Literature for a Debut Author. (Available Online at www.jgapress.com) ? Cynthia F. Reaves is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Jackson Gates Associates, Inc. Formed in 2001, JGA is a consulting firm which focuses on advising nonprofit organizations and emerging minority and women-owned business enterprises. The firm works with corporate Boards to develop strategic plans, implement employee management participation programs, develop corporate policies and implement diversity action plans. ? On a personal note, Ms. Reaves has professionally trained as a chef and enjoys home restoration, renovation and interior design. She is an award-winning historic preservationist having purchased and restored the Berry Gordy Mansion in Detroit, Michigan. Her grandfather’s participation on the Detroit Stars, a Negro Leagues baseball team, fuels her interest in professional sports.
