CINCINNATI, Ohio—Nov. 4, 2019 –SCORE Greater Cincinnati was named MORTAR 2019 Partner of the Year for mentoring all 225 students of the MORTAR Entrepreneurship Academy since that program began five years ago.
The award was presented to SCORE Mentor Jim Stahly at MORTAR’s fifth-anniversary celebration, where MORTAR alumni and business owners were also recognized.
“SCORE has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of coaching and mentoring to MORTAR over these five years and we are incredibly grateful to Jim and to all of our SCORE mentors for your enthusiastic and consistent support,” said MORTAR emcee Kyla Woods.
The MORTAR Entrepreneurship Academy is a 15-week course designed for people starting or growing their business. Every graduate of the Academy--225 in five years—has been paired with a SCORE volunteer for one-on-one mentoring.
“Mentors help startups succeed.” Stahly said. “We meet one-on-one with MORTAR students every week to help them apply the thorough and rigorous curriculum to their business. We ensure they understand the material and also implement it effectively.”
MORTAR creates diverse communities by enabling historically marginalized entrepreneurs to access resources needed to start and run successful businesses. The program was founded in Cincinnati and has been expanded to Milwaukee.
